social media seo8 How Important Is Social Media Marketing in Regards to SEO?

Using this technique will also tremendously help your online SEO campaign. Google likes it a lot when you have good high quality inbound links coming into your site. This happens when individuals or companies read the information you put out that is relevant to what your target audience is looking for.

For example, say you are an appliance repair company that services a local area such as Atlanta. You write on your Blog, Twitter or other forms of Social Media that you repair GE Refrigerators and you have found a solution to a problem that no one else has been able to figure out. You post how to fix this problem on Twitter. Then someone reads your article and finds it very newsworthy and helpful. Then they add the article and reference it and add it on their website and put a hyperlink back to your website. This is an inbound link. But it gets better. The person who adds your article to their blog has 2000 followers. 20 of those followers add the article to their Blog or Twitter account and now you have 21 inbound links from high quality website. This will give you more relevance with Google and therefore increase your ranking.

Keyword Research

keyword research Keyword Research
When someone is searching for information on the web, they will usually visit a search engine and type in some words describing what they are looking for. The search engine then checks its database and returns the results listing pages that meet the words submitted.
These words used by people searching can be called keywords or search terms.

Conducting Keyword Research (Methods)

Keyword research is critical and if keyword research is not done properly then all efforts to rank high in search engines would be wasted. The process of keyword research involves several phases:

1. Brainstorming – Thinking of what our customers/potential visitors would be likely to type in to search engines in an attempt to find the information / services that our site offers.

2. Surveying Customers – Surveying past/potential customers is a great way to expand keyword list to include as many terms/phrases as possible.

3. Applying Data from KW Research Tools – Using these tools can offer concrete data about trends in keyword selection. Some of them are given below:

Word Tracker – Wordtracker help us to choose the right Internet marketing keywords that will help our search engine ranking.

Keyword Discovery – Discover the right keywords to target on website. Identify common keyword misspellings, seasonal trends, related and industry terms.

Overture Search Terms – Enter a term to find how many searches were performed using it the previous month on Overture.

SEO Research Labs – SEO Research Labs provides a very handy service that will identify the best keywords and search terms for your site.

4. Term Selection – The next step is to create a chart that analyzes the terms we believe are valuable and compares traffic and relevancy. This will allow us to make the best informed decisions about which terms to target.

5. Performance Testing and Analytics – After keyword selection and implementation of targeting, analytics programs (like Indextools and ClickTracks) that measure web traffic, activity, and conversions can be used to further refine keyword selection.

Long Tail Keywords:

Long tail keywords are simply multi-phrase search queries which visitors use on search engines to arrive at our website. These long tail keywords are much more targeted than the general or main keyword topic and they literally represent a visitor’s need for specific information.
Here is an example. ‘Credit Cards’ is the general keyword topic and long tail keywords within this slot includes terms such as the following:

o list of low interest credit cards

o benefits of credit cards

Keyword Research – Top Tips For Finding a Niche

keyword research6 Keyword Research Top Tips For Finding a Niche
As you progress with keyword research you are probably going to want to use one of the paid methods that will give more in-depth information to your research. You are going to want to find a long tail keyword phrase, so start with a fairly broad root word and then narrow it down, you are looking for a phrase that has a lot of monthly searches but does not have lots of competition, so an example of this would be acne, there are over 72 million searches for the word acne and this is far too competitive but with a little bit of imagination you could look at acne treatment for adults, a nice long-tailed phrase which returns a healthy amount of searches at 139,000. However it isn’t just about the amount of searches it’s about the competition and you really don’t want to be going up against a ton of other sites competing for that same phrase. Whilst it’s not impossible to get the information you are looking for with the free methods it is rather time consuming.

Come up with a list of words that you think your customer is searching for, ask friends and family as they may be seeing your site through different eyes, try to make your words both broad and targeted then when you put them into a keyword finder you may be pleasantly surprised to see some phrases you hadn’t thought of turn up. Narrow down your list and go through the terms that most closely target the subject and theme of your search. These are the terms you want to hold on to, you can get rid of all the other irrelevant data. Use a combination of both broad root words and keywords on your post that way you won’t be keyword stuffing. People are going to be drawn to your site better if the keyword is long-tailed, but your content can use the root word in order to be of human interest too. Writing about acne in general and including the acne treatment for adults will not only make your site interesting to the reader we hope, but will bring you traffic. Remember that the body of your page isn’t the only place you are going to want to include your keyword phrase because in order to optimize for the search engines you are going to be adding them to:

1. Title Tag

2. Headings

3. Alt text

4. Meta Description Tags

5. Anchor Text or Navigational Links

6. Keyword Tags

If you want to be competitive, you can’t afford to get your keyword research wrong, if you do the search engines and those all important customers may never find you, resulting in worthless rankings and lost sales. By not having the right keywords, you not only waste your advertising budget, you are also throwing away all the time and effort you just put into finding those terms to begin with. Finding a niche business through keyword research is important but learning to effectively build, brand and manage that particular business online is also a major factor in having a successful Internet business.

Social Media – 5 Characteristics Of Where Social Media Is Today

social media1 Social Media 5 Characteristics Of Where Social Media Is Today
Social media has been around for years since the 1990′s, but it really wasn’t popularized until the rise of Facebook and Twitter. After those two networks took off, the floodgates opened. Social media is highly effective because it can be used for a variety of business activities including engagement, customer service, market research and so much more. However, social media has evolved and now is a good time to identify five characteristics that define social media today.

1. Social media is highly adopted – Social networking now accounts for 22% of all time spent online in the US. Twitter processed more than one billion tweets in December 2009 and averages more than 40 million tweets per day. There are over 500 million users on Facebook and roughly half of them log on every single day racking up over 700 billion minutes per month. More than 200 million active users access Facebook from their mobile devices. Over 2 billion videos are streamed every day on YouTube and a hundred million unique users visit the site every month in the US alone. So you see, this industry is mainstream!

2. Social media is local – Social media profiles can all be tailored by local specifications like what city you live in, the location of your business, and so on. Search engines give social networking sites preference in search results which means your business can profit from optimized local profile listings. Facebook pages, Facebook updates, Twitter profiles, Flickr uploads, and Facebook & Foursquare Deals are all examples where local optimization can be beneficial to your business. In fact, local optimization has become so big that certain business models main service is local optimization.

3. Paid Ads – Social media is not 100% free anymore. All businesses need revenues and cash flows, and social networking sites are no exception. Certain social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube are all examples of sites that offer a paid ads model. Paid ads on these sites can generate more highly-targeted traffic than traditional Google AdWords because these sites use the information of their subscribers to target certain individuals. All the information an individual puts on their profile is the exact information you can use to target specific people. For instance, if you wanted to show ads only to 21 year old males who live in Charlotte, NC and who like Prince and mountain biking, you can get that specific.

4. Social sentiment monitoring – Social sentiment monitoring is the tracking of various content such as blogs, wikis, microblogs, social networking sites, video/photo sharing websites, forums, message boards and user-generated content to determine the volume and sentiment around a brand or topic in social media. It’s often used to find negative and positive sentiment and to create outreach strategy plans. Part of any successful social media campaign is to monitor the sentiment of a brand because knowing what people really think about a business is important to the long-term viability of the business.

5. Software – Several companies and services now offer software to easily track, manage, publish, and create content for saving time. Social media software allows businesses or individuals to monitor and execute their strategies all from one platform. The software services are time savers and they are very efficient at getting measurable results. Examples include Postling, Buddy Media, Vitrue, Tweetdeck, Hootsuite, CoTweet, and many more.

Social Media – What Exactly Makes Up Social Media?

social media8 Social Media What Exactly Makes Up Social Media?
The world of social media is diverse and ever-expanding. Just saying the words ‘social media’ will turn heads and generate excitement. Typically, the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear social media is Facebook and maybe Twitter. But there’s so much more to it than that. So the real question is, ‘What exactly makes up social media?’

Social Networks – This category is by far the most popular. Social networks are sites that have multiple different uses but what separates them is their communities. Social network sites include Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, Plaxo and many more. You might be wondering why Twitter isn’t on this list, and that’s because it doesn’t belong in this category. Remember, the social media world is very diverse.

Blogs – Blogs are a relatively new platform (going mainstream less than 10 years ago) but they are an integral part of social media. Blog sites like WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr and Live Journal are some of the most popular ones around today. In fact, a WordPress.org blog platform is one of the most highly customizable social media tools that a person or business can use today.

Microblogging – This is a new type of blogging that sends out short messages to a community of people. The most popular microblogging site is Twitter, and other examples are Google Buzz and Yammer. Microblogging takes a certain type of approach to be really effective, so it’s important that you implement best practices to see real results.

Location-based Social Networks – These types of social media sites are getting more and more popular by the day. Examples included Foursquare, Facebook Places, Gowalla, Loopt and Brightkite. These are mobile applications where users ‘check in’ at physical locations and either get special discounts for products or services or get some sort of points specific to that site.

Video – Yes, video sites are considered social media. You have sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Viddler, TubeMogul and so many more. It’s interesting to note that YouTube is the second largest search engine behind Google because people would rather watch a video than read an article. (Since you’re reading this, I THANK YOU!)

Internet Forums – These types of social media sites are gaining in popularity particularly because of their power with user generated data and reviews. Yelp, Yahoo Answers and Quora are three really good examples of Internet forum sites. Yelp is great because it’s a peer-to-peer review and ratings site for local businesses.

Photos – Photo sharing sites are absolutely blowing up. Some examples are Flickr, Picasa and Photobucket. Users upload their pictures and content to these sites and other people can rate them, share them, sometimes use the content and so much more.
